Pictorial Collection

A pictorial rug is an ornamental rug specially prepared for hanging on room or hall walls for decoration. They can be framed the same way as artwork or paintings, and they are generally intended to be hung on walls. This collection contains works inspired by the Mughal Era.

Mughal painting is a particular style of South Asian painting confined to miniatures either as book illustrations or as single works to be kept in albums. It emerged from Persian miniature painting, a tradition developed in the courts of Babar and Humayun, and then carried forward by their successors. Subjects are rich in variety and include portraits, events, and scenes from court life, wildlife and hunting scenes, and illustrations of battles. The Persian tradition of richly decorated borders framing the central is continued in the boundaries.
